Final Project

But overall, this is my final project. It's my second one, but I altered it and fixed it up more. I honestly didn't know you could do links on powerpoint, but I did my best to make this interesting. There will be links in the power point to click. Hope you enjoy it!

This was certainly a bittersweet ending. But I gotta say, I truly enjoyed this class, despite this being one of the most stressful semesters I've had. I've learned so much and hope everyone has a great summer. <3

NIO: Review Assignment

"NIO" was definitely a new experience for me when it comes to electronic literature. Although I had experienced a lot of technical difficulties since I had to download a newer version of Flash, so for a very long time I was unable to take a took at this piece of work. But eventually, I was able to finally get through this obstacle and be able to finally look and interact with this very interesting piece of electronic literature. This electronic literature is pretty much a sound poem, a type of kinetic visualization that allows the reader or whoever is interacting with this, to almost create their own musical piece. "NIO" consists of letters that are voiced over with sounds where you can layer them one over the other. When you first enter this world, there is a clock-like looking image, and where you would usually see numbers, you see letters. Each of these letters makes a different musical sound that consists of voices. Whenever you click on any of these letters, there are loops and threads of letters that move to the sound in the center of this clock-like image, creating this almost wave-like, circular art form of imagery consisting of the letters. Although this piece shows moments of text, when I was trying to find any sort of narration or story base, I was unable to really find it. "NIO" seems to mainly be a tool that provides a place where one can play around with the sounds and make your own musical creations; combining image, sound and text.  That is exactly what the reader is, the creator. We have the chance to interact with this piece and make something of our own with the tools provided. In a sense, we are creating our own story. Music is usually a way for us to express ourselves, since there are different sounds, I found that there were a few sounds that utterly bothered me to no end. Yet I'm pretty sure the sounds that bother don't bother others, or for them, the sound is beautiful. It all honestly depends on the person. What I created will obviously not be the same for someone else, they might combine completely different sounds, maybe do a mish-mash of something rather than keeping things orderly. Therefore, this e-literature, is honestly more so a very interactive and creative piece.

Blog Post #7

1. Choose the software you would like to use in creating your next piece. Write about that choice explaining briefly why you decided to go with that application. "Play around" with the software, and develop some initial foundation for your project that you may build upon in the week before deadline

I wanted to create my digital story with possibly a PowerPoint  I was trying to work around using Prezi, but this site is so completely and utterly complicated that I couldn't do it. I'm unable to add or create too much of the visualizations that I wish to do to portray my story, and with PowerPoint from Google Drive I feel that I am able to create and portray what I wish to tell with my digital story a lot better.

I'm still working on what kind of story I wish to tell, but I have a couple of ideas. I've never used Google Docs before and so far I have enjoyed the flexibility of creativity that this program provides.

My Spine Poetry

Before we were free,
Fire from heaven,
Paradise lost.

Listen,
The truth about forever,
One door away from heaven.

Blog Post #6

After reading  "A bibliographic overview of electronic literature," I was caught up with one  quote saying "Electronic literature is born-digital literary art." This and of itself states that electronic literature is something that was not just born like many other forms of literature, it's a completely new way and form that was created and born in cyberspace. This creates a uniquely wonderful work that adds on to what is our old ideal of what literature really is.

I also really liked it when Francisco Ricardo says how electronic literature is "fundamentally different from and more complex than a material or printed work" since there are so many things that require a lot of analysis and so many aspects to the work that can help one notice that a lot of work had to be put into every electronic literature piece that's been created.

Overall, this article, very long indeed, had a few insightful pieces of information that did grab my attention and I just mentioned a few of them above for the record.

Blog Post #5

Abstract:
My electronic literature begins with small little excerpt from a mysterious individual who is watching a very thin girl from afar, this in turn then leads on to the 3 stories and experiences of girls with eating disorders, Anorexia and Bulimia. One girl, Alice, is a Pro-Ana girl who support Anorexia as a lifestyle. Lotus is a girl who is currently in recovery from her Bulimia and was once part of Alice's Pro-Ana myspace, where they would go on fasts together and exchange ideas. Patty is another girl who is also Anorexic and considered more of a follower than a leader. Whatever Alice decides to do, she does it, no matter what the price is. This is a story about their lives and the realities of an Eating Disorder.

Instructions:

  • To start reading the story, you have to click "tell me what is wrong with me."
  • On every page, there is a hyperlink that you must click. It is usually in pink font.
  • I hope you enjoy my short little story on these 3 girls. Here's my E-Literature. :)

My Hypertext Assignment Thus Far

Due to my car battery dying, thankfully, at home I was unable to make it to class. I wish I was able to see everyone else's work. It took me a while to think of something over break, and came up with this. I was going to make it very brief, but I just discovered something else I could do. So my site is again, under construction. I'm just playing around with the linking. Will be fixing up my two extra pages, if you can find em.

A) Post your early ideas for the Hypertext Assignment (Project 1).  B)  Post your experiences with your demo google.site thus far - try to identify what kind of help you are going to need.  C)  Also, start to collect images you might want to incorporate into Project 1.  Think of this week as the "image blog" -start collecting images on your Google Drive.

A) In all honesty, I had been completely unsure on what it is I wanted to do. I was planning on maybe doing a story of sorts and just messing around with ideas. I don't know if I am possibly thinking too hard on what I should write or maybe I'm trying to think of something very complex and abstract as the other stories I've read. But overall, this should be something of my own, which I hope to do and just have fun with it :)

B) My experience so far with the google sites is still in "newbie" mode. I am COMPLETELY lost, but I hope to get the hang of this. I really want to know how am I going to do this whole page to page link thing, how to add some music and images. But I suppose I play around the site and see where I will end up. Hopefully it goes well.

C) I'm still a but unsure of what my topic may be...I might make this a very small story and I might change it so no high hopes yet. My story will incorporate an eating disordered girl and how it feels in her mind. THIS MIGHT CHANGE. Here are my pictures so far:

Write about some of the pieces you have been exploring in the ELC.

As I was looking around the ELC, there were a few things that I stumbled upon that caught my attention. One was Dawn which is a beautiful combination of landscape photography, sound and poetry. It was actually a lot like a movie and very mellow and relaxing. Yet very chilling. Another interesting link that caught my attention was the Star Wars one letter at a time, mainly because it looked really amusing and it wasn't as I expected. It was just letters going at literally, the speed of light. There were a couple more that I found very interesting and a few that I would just read a few lines and then continue on looking through other links. But overall, this is definitely something very new and interesting :) Can't wait to learn more.

Different ways to read Twelve Blue

When I first started reading Twelve Blue, I just started by clicking on "Begin." It wasn't until yesterday that I realized there are different types of beginnings with this whole story. By clicking the picture and then clicking a link, I also realized it takes you to another "page." In a way and for some time, I just started playing around with the story finding all of these cool different ways to reading the story; and I even found that by clicking the previous page button next to the refresh button that THAT also took me to a different page despite just being on the main page before.

That's all I can get for now, but still, what a crazy story. Woo.
